Design Philosophy
The pre-fabricated house concept is an ongoing investigation by Zen Architects into delivering sustainable housing at an affordable cost.The modular planning of the pre-fabricated house allows for adaptability and flexibility as the non-load bearing light weight strawboard partitions can be re-arranged easily. Extension to the house by addition of modules is also relatively easy.
The pre-fabricated house is a non site-specific model so we have built into the design the ability to adapt the house to a specific site’s orientation to maximize passive solar gain. The façade can be made up of panels of glass windows to maximize passive solar gain or insulated walls for thermal performance as dictated by the orientation and local climate. The insulated wall panels can be clad with a multitude of sustainable materials depending on neighbourhood character or aesthetic preference.
