The site is on the edge of the Yea Wetlands, adjacent to the Goulburn Valley Highway at the point where it transitions from being a freeway to a main street with shops. The building uses this position to serve as a gateway to both the town and wetlands.
The form of the building responds to the opportunities and constraints of this site. The sweeping curve of the building is legible to cars approaching Yea at 100km/h and provides a striking beacon for visitors to the wetlands. Meanwhile, the inner side of the building frames a natural amphitheatre and provides a sanctuary for visitors that is protected from the noise of the road and opens up to the wetlands.
Entering the building, the visitor is taken on a gentle journey across the bridge unwinding them from the trip in the vehicle and preparing them to embrace the nature of the wetland beyond.
